Coastal Circuit


The town of Bagamoyo, Tanzania, was founded at the end of the 18th century. It was the original capital of German East Africa and was one of the most important trading ports along the East African coast. Bagamoyo's history has been influenced by Indian and Arab traders, the German colonial government and the Christian missionaries.

About 5 km (3 mi) south of Bagamoyo, the Kaole Ruins with remnants of two mosques and a couple of tombs can be dated back to the 13th century. Until the middle of the 18th century, Bagamoyo was a small and insignificant trading center where most of the populations were fishermen and farmers. The main trading goods were fish, salt, and gum, among other things.

Today, Bagamoyo is a centre for dhow sailboat building and teaching traditional Tanzanian painting, sculpture, drama, dancing and drumming. Dar es Salaam


Kilwa Kisiwani is a community on an island off the southern coast of present-day Tanzania in eastern Africa. Historically, it was the center of the Kilwa Sultanate, a medieval sultanate whose authority at its height in the 13th-15th centuries AD stretched the entire length of the Swahili Coast.

Kilwa Kisiwani is an archaeological city-state site located along the Swahili Coast on the Kilwa archipelago. It was occupied from at least the 8th century AD and became one of the most powerful settlements along the coast.

Mafia Island

Mafia Island and its reefs are renowned as an excellent, world-class diving destination. Scientists have confirmed that Mafia has some of the richest reefs in the world, with an unparalleled variety of hard and soft corals and diversity of tropical fish. Mafia Island's history goes back to the 8th century.

The island once played a major role in ancient trade between the people of the Far East and East Africa. It was a regular stop for Arab boats. Natural vegetation on Mafia ranges from tidal mangrove thickets and scrubby coastal moorlands to palm-wooden grassland and lowland rainforest. Famous activities found in mafia are: scuba diving and snorkeling, whale sharks, kayak, sailing, fishing, windsurf, boat excursions & picnics

Pemba Island

Pemba Island is an island forming part of the Zanzibar Archipelago, lying within the Swahili Coast in the Indian Ocean. Pemba Island has been separated from the mainland of Tanzania and Zanzibar for decades, leaving an untouched and pristine island of great beauty and fertility. The mosaic of forests, swamps, mangroves, hidden beaches and lagoons is scattered with the ruins of mosques and tombs mostly reclaimed by the forest – sites that date back to Arab domination when Pemba Island was seized by the Sultan of Muscat (Oman) in the 17th century.. Different activities found in Pemba are: scuba diver, boat trips and snorkeling.

Zanzibar Island

Places of interest in Dar es Salaam include the Makumbusho village, fish market and kigamboni ferry, the national museum, marine parks, unspoilt beaches and extensive water sports. It also have many luxurious hotels.
